What is audio-visual translation?
Audio-visual translation is one of the forms of translation that is concerned with translating visual and audio media, such as translating films, series, and news bulletins.
Types of audiovisual translation
News bulletins, films, series, and audio-visual content are translated using one of the following types of audio-visual translation:
- Translation method: It consists of translating the audible text and writing it on the screen, such as translating foreign films and some Arab films that seek universality. Recently, we find works translated into English, French, or both at the same time, and this is in two different lines.
- Dubbing: This is the audio representation of the content in the language it is translated into. We see it in many Turkish works broadcast by Arab channels, and many Arab audiences are keen to follow them.
- Sign language: This method is directed to the deaf and mute, as a person appears on the screen conveying what is said in that language, and it is always used in news bulletins
- Voiceover method: Here the original voice appears in the background along with the translator’s voice. This method is used in documentaries and televised press interviews, where the translator conveys what the guest says in parallel and in a louder voice, so the guest’s voice in the background is low.
